MARCIT is a public entity self-insurance pool providing workers' compensation, liability, property, health, dental and vision insurance to a membership of more than 70 Missouri and Kansas local governments.
Members include cities, counties and special purpose local governments. In addition to a full line of insurance products designed to meet the special needs of local governments, MARCIT also offers a comprehensive
program of loss control services to educate Members on loss control issues.
MARCIT started on July 1, 1983 with 9 Members who joined together in a pioneer workers' compensation program. One year later, MARCIT added health and dental coverage. January 1985 saw the introduction of liability
and property to the coverages. The majority of MARCIT's membership is in Missouri. Under special agreement with the Kansas Department of Insurance, as permitted by state law, MARCIT offers health, dental and vision
coverages to local governments in the five Kansas counties in the greater Kansas City metropolitan area.
An eleven person Board of Directors, elected by the Members to serve 3-year overlapping terms, governs MARCIT. The Board appoints the Executive Director, who is responsibe for implementation and administration of all
MARCIT programs and services. MARCIT provides its service with a small staff of insurance professionals and a network of contracted service providers. This includes claims adjusters, insurance brokers and defense attorneys.
